This flagship “East African Explorer” journey is a 21-day cross-border expedition designed to showcase the very best of East Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultures across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

The safari begins in Uganda’s lush primate forests, continues through Rwanda’s volcanic highlands, moves into Kenya’s iconic savannahs of the Maasai Mara, and concludes in Tanzania’s legendary Serengeti ecosystem. It is a true “grand circuit” experience combining gorillas, chimpanzees, the Big Five, the Great Migration, and cultural immersion across four countries.

Day 1 – Arrival in Entebbe

Upon arrival in Entebbe, you are welcomed and transferred to your lakeside hotel. This first evening is a gentle introduction to East Africa, with optional birding along the shores of Lake Victoria where African fish eagles call across the water, pied kingfishers hover above the lake, and weaver birds animate the shoreline vegetation. Day 2 – Mabamba Swamp Shoebill Experience

Today you venture into the legendary Mabamba Swamp for a canoe-based birding expedition in search of the prehistoric shoebill stork. Navigating narrow papyrus channels, you also encounter malachite kingfishers, papyrus gonoleks, swamp flycatchers, and African jacanas. The swamp offers a quiet, immersive wetland experience before returning to Entebbe in the afternoon for relaxation. Dinner & Overnight at The Boma Hotel Entebbe

Day 3 – Transfer to Kibale Forest

You travel west through Uganda’s countryside toward the lush crater lake region and onward to Kibale. Along the way, roadside birding reveals turacos, hornbills, and sunbirds in increasing forest density. The landscape becomes greener and more humid as you approach one of Africa’s richest primate ecosystems. Dinner & Overnight at Turaco Treetops Lodge

Day 4 – Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale

In Kibale National Park, you enter dense rainforest for chimpanzee tracking. The forest is alive with calls and movement as chimpanzees vocalize from the canopy. You may also encounter red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and blue monkeys. Birdlife includes great blue turacos, hornbills, and possibly the elusive green-breasted pitta. Day 5 – Bigodi Wetland Birding

A guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary introduces you to swamp forest and papyrus ecosystems. Expect sightings of papyrus gonolek, white-winged warbler, black-and-white casqued hornbill, and great blue turaco. The experience is enriched by community interaction and conservation storytelling. Day 6 – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You descend into savannah landscapes as you enter Queen Elizabeth National Park. Afternoon game drive across Kasenyi plains reveals elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, and lions resting in fig trees. Birdlife includes martial eagles, secretary birds, and various bee-eaters. Dinner & Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge

Day 7 – Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

A morning boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel brings you close to hippos, crocodiles, and one of Africa’s highest concentrations of waterbirds. African skimmers, pelicans, cormorants, and fish eagles dominate the waterways. Afternoon relaxation at the lodge overlooking the channel completes the day. Dinner & Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge

Day 8 – Transfer to Bwindi via Ishasha Sector

You drive through Ishasha, famous for tree-climbing lions resting in fig trees, before ascending into the misty highlands of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The forest becomes denser, cooler, and more atmospheric as you approach your lodge. Dinner & Overnight at Buhoma Lodge

Day 9 – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Today is the highlight of Uganda. You trek through dense rainforest in search of a mountain gorilla family. The experience is intimate and emotional as you spend time observing gorillas feeding, playing, and interacting in their natural habitat. The forest also hosts Rwenzori turacos, hornbills, and other Albertine Rift endemics. Dinner & Overnight at Buhoma Lodge

Day 10 – Bwindi Forest Birding Exploration

A second full day in Bwindi allows deeper exploration of forest trails. You search for African green broadbills, regal sunbirds, cinnamon-chested bee-eaters, and possibly Shelley’s crimsonwing. The forest is quiet, misty, and deeply immersive, rewarding patience and focus. Dinner & Overnight at Buhoma Lodge

Day 11 – Transfer to Rwanda (Lake Kivu)

You cross into Rwanda, descending into the scenic Lake Kivu region. The landscape shifts to terraced hills and calm lakeshores. Birdlife along the shoreline includes kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. Dinner & Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

Day 12 – Lake Kivu Birding & Boat Experience

A relaxed day on Lake Kivu includes a boat excursion to fishing villages and shoreline birding. African fish eagles dominate the lake, while pied kingfishers and cormorants patrol the water. The afternoon is for relaxation and lakeside scenery. Dinner & Overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

Day 13 – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You drive into the volcanic highlands of Volcanoes National Park, home of misty peaks and bamboo forests. The scenery is dramatic, with terraced hills and cool mountain air. Dinner & Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Day 14 – Golden Monkey Tracking

You track golden monkeys in bamboo forests, observing their fast, playful movements through the vegetation. Optional cultural visit to nearby communities provides insight into Rwandan traditions and conservation efforts. Dinner & Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Day 15 – Fly to Nairobi, Kenya

You fly to Kenya and transfer to your hotel in Nairobi. The rest of the day is for rest and preparation for safari expansion into the Maasai Mara. Dinner & Overnight at Eka Hotel Nairobi

Day 16 – Transfer to Maasai Mara

You travel into the legendary Maasai Mara, where endless savannah opens up before you. Afternoon game drive introduces elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, and wildebeest herds. Dinner & Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge

Day 17 – Full Day Maasai Mara Safari

A full day exploring the Mara reveals the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos—along with cheetahs, hyenas, and vast herbivore herds. Predator-prey interactions define the landscape. Dinner & Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge

Day 18 – Great Migration River Experience

You visit the Mara River where wildebeest crossings (seasonal) create dramatic predator action involving crocodiles and big cats. Vultures and marabou storks circle above the action. Dinner & Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge

Day 19 – Maasai Cultural Experience

A visit to a Maasai village introduces traditional dances, cattle culture, and storytelling. Afternoon game drive continues wildlife viewing across the plains. Dinner & Overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge

Day 20 – Transfer to Serengeti

You cross into Tanzania and enter the Serengeti plains. Afternoon game drive reveals lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and massive herds of wildebeest and zebras. Dinner & Overnight at Serengeti Heritage Camp

Day 21 – Ngorongoro Crater & Departure

You descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wildlife amphitheater hosting black rhinos, lions, elephants, hippos, flamingos, and buffaloes. After the game drive, you transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro for departure, marking the end of your East African Explorer journey.
